1These [are] the words of the covenant, which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Choreb.
1These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
2And Moses called all the sons of Israeland said to them, You⌃ have seen all things that the Lord did in the land of Egypt before you to Pharao and his servants, and all his land;
2Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;
3the great temptations which your eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders.
3the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders.
4Yet the Lord God has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, until this day.
4But Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.
5And he led you forty years in the wilderness; your garments did not grow old , and your sandals were not worn away off your feet.
5I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old on you, and your sandals have not grown old on your feet.
6You⌃ did not eat bread, you⌃ did not drink wine or strong drink, that you⌃ might know that I [am] the Lord your God.
6You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.
7And you came as far as this place; and there came forth Seon king of Esebon, and Og king of Basan, to meet us in war.
7When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we struck them.
8And we struck them and took their land, and I gave it for an inheritance to Ruben and Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasse.
8We took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.
9And you⌃ shall take heed to do all the words of this covenant , that you may understand all things that you⌃ shall do.
9Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.
10You⌃ all stand today before the Lord your God, the heads of your tribes, and your elders, and your judges, and your officers, every man of Israel,
10All of you stand today in the presence of Yahweh your God: your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,
11your wives, and your children, and the stranger who is in the midst of your camp, from your hewer of wood even to your drawer of water,
11your little ones, your wives, and the foreigners who are in the middle of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water,
12that you should enter into the covenant of the Lord your Godand into his oaths, as many as the Lord your God appoints you this day;
12that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath, which Yahweh your God makes with you today,
13that he may appoint you to himself for a people, and he shall be your God, as he said to you, and as he swore to your fathers, Abraam, and Isaac, and Jacob.
13that he may establish you today as his people, and that he may be your God, as he spoke to you and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
14And I do not appoint to you alone this covenant and this oath;
14Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only,
15but to those also who are here with you today before the Lord your God, and to those who are not here with you today.
15but with those who stand here with us today before Yahweh our God, and also with those who are not here with us today
16For you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, how we came through the midst of the nations through whom you⌃ came.
16(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the middle of the nations through which you passed;
17And you⌃ saw their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silverand gold, which are among them.
17and you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were among them);
18Lest there be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart has turned aside from the Lord your God, having gone to serve the gods of these nations; lest there be in you a root springing up with gall and bitterness.
18lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;
19And it shall be if one shall hear the words of this curse, and shall flatter himself in his heart, saying, Let good happen to me, for I will walk in the error of my heart, lest the sinner destroy the guiltless with [him]:
19and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.
20God shall by no means be willing to pardon him, but then the wrath of the Lord and his jealousy shall flame out against that man; and all the curses of this covenant shall attach themselves to him, which are written in this book , and the Lord shall blot out his name from under heaven.
20Yahweh will not pardon him, but then Yahweh’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky.
21And the Lord shall separate that man for evil of all the children of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in the book of this law.
21Yahweh will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the law.
22And another generation shall sayeven your sons who shall rise up after you, and the stranger who shall come from a land afar off, and shall see the plagues of that land and their diseases, which the Lord has sent upon it ,
22The generation to comeyour children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick,
23brimstone and burning salt, (the whole land shall not be sown, neither shall any green thing spring, nor rise upon it, as Sodom and Gomorrha were overthrown, Adama and Seboim, which the Lord overthrew in his wrath and anger:)—
23that all of its land is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn’t produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
24and all the nations shall say, Why has the Lord done thus to this land? what [is] this great fierceness of anger ?
24Even all the nations will say, Why has Yahweh done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?
25And [men] shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers, the things which he appointed to their fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt:
25Then men will say, Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
26and they went and served other gods , which they knew not, neither did he assign [them] to them.
26and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know and that he had not given to them.
27And the Lord was exceedingly angry with that landto bring upon it according to all the curses which are written in the book of this law.
27Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.
28And the Lord removed them from their land in anger, and wrath, and very great indignation, and cast them out into another landas at present.
28Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.
29The secret things [belong] to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed [belong] to us and to our children for ever, to do all the words of this law.
29The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
