1And he said to me, Son of Man, eat this volume, and go and speak to the children of Israel.
1He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find. Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.”
2So he opened my mouth, and caused me to eat the volume. And he said to me, Son of man,
2So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat the scroll.
3your mouth shall eat, and your belly shall be filled with this volume that is given to you. So I ate it; and it was in my mouth as sweet as honey .
3He said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll that I give you and fill your belly and your bowels with it.” Then I ate it. It was as sweet as honey in my mouth.
4And he said to me, Son of man, go your way, and go in to the house of Israel, and speak my words to them.
4He said to me, “Son of man, go to the house of Israel, and speak my words to them.
5For you are not sent to a people of hard speech , [but] to the house of Israel;
5For you are not sent to a people of a strange speech and of a hard language, but to the house of Israel—
6neither to many nations of other speech and other tongues, nor of harsh language, whose words you would not understand: although if I [had] sent you to such, they would have listened to you.
6not to many peoples of a strange speech and of a hard language, whose words you can’t understand. Surely, if I sent you to them, they would listen to you.
7But the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you; for they will not listen to me: for all the house of Israel are stubborn and hard-hearted.
7But the house of Israel will not listen to you, for they will not listen to me; for all the house of Israel are obstinate and hard-hearted.
8And, behold, I have made your face strong against their faces, and I will strengthen your power against their power.
8Behold, I have made your face hard against their faces, and your forehead hard against their foreheads.
9And it shall be continually stronger than a rock: be not afraid of them, neither be dismayed at their faces, because it is a provoking house.
9I have made your forehead as a diamond, harder than flint. Don’t be afraid of them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.”
10And he said to me, Son of man, receive into your heart all the words that I have spoken to you, and hear [them] with your ears.
10Moreover he said to me, “Son of man, receive in your heart and hear with your ears all my words that I speak to you.
11And go your way, go in to the captivity, to the children of your people, and you shall speak to them, and say to them, Thus says the Lord; whether they will hear, [or] whether they will forbear.
11Go to them of the captivity, to the children of your people, and speak to them, and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Yahweh says,’ whether they will hear, or whether they will refuse.”
12Then the Spirit took me up, and I heard behind me the voice [as] of a great earthquake, [saying], Blessed [be] the glory of the Lord from his place.
12Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great rushing, saying, “Blessed be Yahweh’s glory from his place.”
13And I perceived the sound of the wings of the living creatures clapping one to the other, and the sound of the wheels was near them, and the sound of the earthquake.
13I heard the noise of the wings of the living creatures as they touched one another, and the noise of the wheels beside them, even the noise of a great rushing.
14And the Spirit lifted me , and took me up, and I went in the impulse of my spirit; and the hand of the Lord was mighty upon me.
14So the Spirit lifted me up, and took me away; and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; and Yahweh’s hand was strong on me.
15Then I passed through the air and came into the captivity, and went round [to] them that lived by the river of Chobar who were there; and I sat there seven days, conversant in the midst of them.
15Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel Aviv who lived by the river Chebar, and to where they lived; and I sat there overwhelmed among them seven days.
16And after the seven days the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Son of man,
16At the end of seven days, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
17I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel; and you shall hear a word of my mouth, and shall threaten them from me.
17“Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word from my mouth, and warn them from me.
18When I say to the wicked, You shall surely die;and you have not warned him , to give warning to the wicked , to turn from his ways, that he should live; that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand.
18When I tell the wicked, ‘You will surely die;’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at your hand.
19But if you warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, and from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, and you shall deliver your soul.
19Yet if you warn the wicked, and he doesn’t turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he will die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.”
20And when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits a trespass, and I shall bring punishment before him, he shall die, because you did not warn him: he shall even die in his sins, because his righteousness shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at your hand.
20“Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he will die. Because you have not given him warning, he will die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered; but I will require his blood at your hand.
21But if you warn the righteous not to sin, and he sin not , the righteous shall surely live, because you have warned him; and you shall deliver your own soul.
21Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man, that the righteous not sin, and he does not sin, he will surely live, because he took warning; and you have delivered your soul.”
22And the hand of the Lord came upon me; and he said to me, Arise, and go forth into the plain, and there shall you be spoken to.
22Yahweh’s hand was there on me; and he said to me, “Arise, go out into the plain, and I will talk with you there.”
23And I arose, and went forth to the plain: and, behold, the glory of the Lord stood there, according to the vision, and according to the glory of the Lord, which I saw by the river of Chobar: and I fell on my face.
23Then I arose, and went out into the plain, and behold, Yahweh’s glory stood there, like the glory which I saw by the river Chebar. Then I fell on my face.
24Then the Spirit came upon me, and set me on my feet, and spoke to me, and said to me, Go in, and shut yourself up in the midst of your house.
24Then the Spirit entered into me and set me on my feet. He spoke with me, and said to me, “Go, shut yourself inside your house.
25And you, son of man, behold, bonds are prepared for you, and they shall bind you with them, and you shall not come forth of the midst of them.
25But you, son of man, behold, they will put ropes on you, and will bind you with them, and you will not go out among them.
26Also I will bind your tongue, and you shall be dumb, and shall not be to thema reprover: because it is a provoking house.
26I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be mute and will not be able to correct them, for they are a rebellious house.
27But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord, He that hears, let him hear; and he that is disobedient, let him be disobedient: because it is a provoking house.
27But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Yahweh says.’ He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.”
