1For the end, a Psalm of David, [an utterance] of extreme fear.
1I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
2O Lord , I have hoped in thee; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness and rescue me.
2O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
3Incline thine ear to me; make haste to rescue me: be thou to me for a protecting God, and for a house of refuge to save me.
3O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
4For thou art my strength and my refuge; and thou shalt guide me for thy name's sake, and maintain me.
4Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
5Thou shalt bring me out of the snare which they have hidden for me; for thou, O Lord, art my defender.
5For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
6Into thine hands I will commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
6And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.
7Thou hast hated them that idly persist in vanities: but I have hoped in the Lord.
7Lord, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.
8I will exult and be glad in thy mercy: for thou hast looked upon mine affliction; thou hast saved my soul from distresses.
8I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication.
9And thou hast not shut me up into the hands of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a wide place.
9What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
10Pity me, O Lord, for I am afflicted: my eye is troubled with indignation, my soul and my belly.
10Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper.
11For my life is spent with grief, and my years with groanings: my strength has been weakened through poverty, and my bones are troubled.
11Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12I became a reproach among all mine enemies, but exceedingly so to my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that saw me without fled from me.
12To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
