1(38) A Psalm of David for remembrance concerning the Sabbath-day. O Lord, rebuke me not in your wrath, neither chasten me in your anger.
1By David. Don’t fret because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness.
2For your weapons are fixed in me, and you have pressed your hand heavily upon me.
2For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither like the green herb.
3For there is no health in my flesh because of your anger; there is no peace to my bones because of my sins.
3Trust in Yahweh, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.
4For my transgressions have gone over my head: they have pressed heavily upon me like a weighty burden.
4Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5My bruises have become noisome and corrupt, because of my foolishness.
5Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this:
6I have been wretched and bowed down continually: I went with a mourning countenance all the day .
6he will make your righteousness shine out like light, and your justice as the noon day sun.
7For my soul is filled with mockings; and there is no health in my flesh.
7Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.
8I have been afflicted and brought down exceedingly: I have roared for the groaning of my heart.
8Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don’t fret; it leads only to evildoing.
9But all my desire is before you; and my groaning is not hidden from you.
9For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for Yahweh shall inherit the land.
10My heart is troubled, my strength has failed me; and the light of my eyes is not with me.
10For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more. Yes, though you look for his place, he isn’t there.
11My friends and my neighbors drew near before me, and stood still; and my nearest of kin stood afar off.
11But the humble shall inherit the land, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
12While they pressed hard upon me that sought my soul: and they that sought my hurt spoke vanities, and devised deceits all the day.
12The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth.
13But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and was as a dumb man not opening his mouth.
13The Lord will laugh at him, for he sees that his day is coming.
14And I was as a man that hears not, and who has no reproofs in his mouth.
14The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who are upright on the path.
15For I hoped in you, O Lord: you will hear, O Lord my God.
15Their sword shall enter into their own heart. Their bows shall be broken.
16For I said, Lest my enemies rejoice against me: for when my feet were moved, they spoke boastingly against me.
16Better is a little that the righteous has, than the abundance of many wicked.
17For I am ready for plagues, and my grief is continually before me.
17For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh upholds the righteous.
18For I will declare my iniquity, and be distressed for my sin.
18Yahweh knows the days of the perfect. Their inheritance shall be forever.
19But my enemies live, and are mightier than I: and they that hate me unjustly are multiplied.
19They shall not be disappointed in the time of evil. In the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20They that reward evil for good slandered me; because I followed righteousness.
20But the wicked shall perish. The enemies of Yahweh shall be like the beauty of the fields. They will vanish— vanish like smoke.
21Forsake me not, O Lord my God: depart not from me.
21The wicked borrow, and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously.
22Draw near to my help, O Lord of my salvation.
22For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the land. Those who are cursed by him shall be cut off.
