1(48) A Psalm of praise for the sons of Core on the second [day] of the week. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in his holy mountain.
1For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. Oh clap your hands, all you nations. Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
2The city of the great King is well planted [on] the mountains of Sion, with the joy of the whole earth, [on] the sides of the north.
2For Yahweh Most High is awesome. He is a great King over all the earth.
3God is known in her palaces, when he undertakes to help her.
3He subdues nations under us, and peoples under our feet.
4For, behold the kings of the earth were assembled, they came together.
4He chooses our inheritance for us, the glory of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.
5They saw, and so they wondered: they were troubled, they were moved.
5God has gone up with a shout, Yahweh with the sound of a trumpet.
6Trembling took hold on them: there were the pangs as of a woman in travail.
6Sing praises to God! Sing praises! Sing praises to our King! Sing praises!
7You will break the ships of Tharsis with a vehement wind.
7For God is the King of all the earth. Sing praises with understanding.
8As we have heard, so have we also seen, in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God has founded it for ever. Pause.
8God reigns over the nations. God sits on his holy throne.
9We have thought of your mercy, O God, in the midst of your people.
9The princes of the peoples are gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God. He is greatly exalted!
