1(64) For the end, a Psalm of David. Hear my prayer, O God, when I make my petition to you; deliver my soul from fear of the enemy.
1A Psalm by David, when he was in the desert of Judah. God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where there is no water.
2You have sheltered me from the conspiracy of them that do wickedly; from the multitude of them that work iniquity;
2So I have seen you in the sanctuary, watching your power and your glory.
3who have sharpened their tongues as a sword; they have bent their bow maliciously;
3Because your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise you.
4to shoot in secret at the blameless; they will shoot him suddenly, and will not fear.
4So I will bless you while I live. I will lift up my hands in your name.
5They have set up for themselves an evil matter, they have given counsel to hide snares; they have said, Who shall see them?
5My soul shall be satisfied as with the richest food. My mouth shall praise you with joyful lips,
6They have searched out iniquity; they have wearied themselves with searching diligently, a man shall approach and the heart is deep,
6when I remember you on my bed, and think about you in the night watches.
7and God shall be exalted, their wounds were [caused by] the weapon of the foolish children,
7For you have been my help. I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings.
8and their tongues have set him at nothing, all that saw them were troubled;
8My soul stays close to you. Your right hand holds me up.
9and every man was alarmed, and they related the works of God, and understood his deeds.
9But those who seek my soul to destroy it shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10The righteous shall rejoice in the Lord, and hope on him, and all the upright in heart shall be praised.
10They shall be given over to the power of the sword. They shall be jackal food.
