1(91) Praise of a Song, by David. He that dwells in the help of the Highest, shall sojourn under the shelter of the God of heaven.
1A Prayer by Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our dwelling place for all generations.
2He shall say to the Lord, You are my helper and my refuge: my God; I will hope in him.
2Before the mountains were born, before you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.
3For he shall deliver you from the snare of the hunters, from [every] troublesome matter.
3You turn man to destruction, saying, “Return, you children of men.
4He shall overshadow you with his shoulders, and you shall trust under his wings: his truth shall cover you with a shield.
4For a thousand years in your sight are just like yesterday when it is past, like a watch in the night.
5You shall not be afraid of terror by night; nor of the arrow flying by day;
5You sweep them away as they sleep. In the morning they sprout like new grass.
6[nor] of the [evil] thing that walks in darkness; [nor] of calamity, and the evil spirit at noon-day.
6In the morning it sprouts and springs up. By evening, it is withered and dry.
7A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.
7For we are consumed in your anger. We are troubled in your wrath.
8Only with your eyes shall you observe and see the reward of sinners.
8You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
9For you, O Lord, are my hope: you, my soul, have made the Most High your refuge.
9For all our days have passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.
10No evils shall come upon you, and no scourge shall draw near to your dwelling.
10The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.
11For he shall give his angels charge concerning you, to keep you in all your ways.
11Who knows the power of your anger, your wrath according to the fear that is due to you?
12They shall bear you up on their hands, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone.
12So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
13You shall tread on the asp and basilisk: and you shall trample on the lion and dragon.
13Relent, Yahweh! How long? Have compassion on your servants!
14For he has hoped in me, and I will deliver him: I will protect him, because he has known my name.
14Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15He shall call upon me, and I will listen to him: I am with him in affliction; and I will deliver him, and glorify him.
15Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen evil.
16I will satisfy him with length of days, and show him my salvation.
16Let your work appear to your servants, your glory to their children.
