1For the end, a Psalm of David, concerning the secrets of the Son.I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will recount all your wonderful works.
1For the Chief Musician. Set to “The Death of the Son.” A Psalm by David. I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart. I will tell of all your marvelous works.
2I will be glad and exult in you: I will sing to your name, O you Most High.
2I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
3When my enemies are turned back, they shall be feeble and perish at your presence.
3When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish in your presence.
4For you have maintained my cause and my right; you sat on the throne, that judge righteousness.
4For you have maintained my just cause. You sit on the throne judging righteously.
5You have rebuked the nations, and the ungodly one has perished; you have blotted out their name for ever, even for ever and ever.
5You have rebuked the nations. You have destroyed the wicked. You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
6The swords of the enemy have failed utterly; and you have destroyed cities: their memorial has been destroyed with a noise,
6The enemy is overtaken by endless ruin. The very memory of the cities which you have overthrown has perished.
7but the Lord endures for ever: he has prepared his throne for judgment.
7But Yahweh reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment.
8And he will judge the world in righteousness, he will judge the nations in uprightness.
8He will judge the world in righteousness. He will administer judgment to the peoples in uprightness.
9The Lord also is become a refuge for the poor, a seasonable help, in affliction.
9Yahweh will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble.
10And let them that know your name hope in you: for you, O Lord, have not failed them that diligently seek you.
10Those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, Yahweh, have not forsaken those who seek you.
11Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Sion: declare his dealings among the nations.
11Sing praises to Yahweh, who dwells in Zion, and declare among the people what he has done.
12For he remembered them, [in] making inquisition for blood: he has not forgotten the supplication of the poor.
12For he who avenges blood remembers them. He doesn’t forget the cry of the afflicted.
13Have mercy upon me, O Lord; look upon my affliction [which I suffer] of my enemies, you that lift me up from the gates of death:
13Have mercy on me, Yahweh. See my affliction by those who hate me, and lift me up from the gates of death,
14that I may declare all your praises in the gates of the daughter of Sion: I will exult in your salvation.
14that I may show all of your praise. I will rejoice in your salvation in the gates of the daughter of Zion.
15The heathen are caught in the destruction which they planned: in the very snare which they hid is their foot taken.
15The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made. In the net which they hid, their own foot is taken.
16The Lord is known as executing judgments: the sinner is taken in the works of his hands. A song of Pause.
16Yahweh has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah.
17Let sinners be driven away into Hades, [even] all the nations that forget God.
17The wicked shall be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God.
18For the poor shall not be forgotten for ever: the patience of the needy ones shall not perish for ever.
18For the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.
19Arise, O Lord, let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged before you.
19Arise, Yahweh! Don’t let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your sight.
20Appoint, O Lord, a lawgiver over them: let the heathen know that they are men. Pause. (Psalm 9a)
